Standard 8mm film Colour Silent 1958 9:13
Summary: Amateur film of construction work in Karachi, Pakistan.
Title number: 393
LSA ID: LSA/509
Description: The film begins with a shot of a cluster of vultures upon the ground. The next shots show foundations being dug into the ground by a large group of Pakistani men and women using very basic equipment. Elsewhere some women are filmed carrying small rocks in baskets on their heads, while men are breaking the ground with hand tools. There are some views of new roads and buildings related to 'KLM Midway House' including a low rise office building with a fountain in its forecourt (the offices are for the airline KLM and located adjacent to Qu'aid-e-azam International Airport in Karachi). The film includes shots of some acrobats performing an act on a high pole before an audience, many of whom shade themselves from the sun with umbrellas, a large muddy river with boats upon it, and a busy town.
Credits: Anderson Dunn, James (Filmmaker)
Further information: This film was previously called 'India', perhaps based on a misattribution of the location on initial viewing.
