Description: The film begins with a carnival procession in 1960. Beginning at the carnival assembly point on Nestles Avenue, where a parade of decorated floats is manned by costumed participants. A motley assortment including women in bathing costumes, Boy Scouts from the 3rd Hayes St Mary's, Choristers, Miss Dover 1960, the Carnival Queen and cyclists await the sign to move off. Floats for Dr Triplett's Church School, the Hayes & Harlington Community Association, and the holiday destinations of Ramsgate and Bexhill-on-Sea, Hayes Amateur Boxing Club, Hayes, Uxbridge & District Infantile Paralysis Fellowship, the Janus Players, Botwell House, Chibnalls Bakery, Hayes Council House Tenants, Hayes & Harlington Old People Welfare, and Taplins Fashion Stores of Belmore Parade are amongst those visible. Crowds line the procession route along Station Road and over the railway bridge. A motorcycle-sidecar combination and a civil defence land rover drive slowly at the head of the procession, which is led by a town crier swinging his bell, followed by impersonators of Charlie Chaplin and 'the kid' and marching teenage girl bagpipers and the floats. The route proceeds onto Coldharbour Lane, and on to Uxbridge Road. At Uxbridge Road, the Union Flag flies alongside the Tricolore of France and the Bundesflagge und Handelsflagge of Germany above the Mayor, local councillors and representatives from Schleswig and Mantes-La-Jolie. The procession ends at the Hayes & Harlington Sports Stadium on Judge Heath Lane. The procession is followed by the Town Twinning Ceremony itself. A floral display marks out the shape of the three towns being twinned beneath their respective national flags. Inside Hayes & Harlington Sports Stadium the three flags fly from one flagpole. A uniformed brass band sits and plays on the running track as people seat themselves on the stand. Representatives from the three towns take seats on a dais raised in the centre of the track, from which speeches are made by the officials present. A group of pigeons are released into the sky ending the official part of the ceremony. Photographers take pictures for the press and many of the spectators board coaches to leave.
