Title number: 2453

Description: Pupils of the Clerkenwell Parochial School take part in a day of remembrance about the Second World War and the day victory in Europe was announced. Several of the school staff are dressed in wartime costume including an ARP man, a nurse, a spiv, an American G.I., some Lyons Tea House 'Girls', and a naval officer. A minute's silence for the war dead prefaces more active and less sombre activity. The children wave flags and cheer, and their actions are intercut with archive film of V.E. day in Trafalgar Square in 1945. A street party is set out for the children in the playground of the school where they eat sandwiches and cake. After eating the children play ball games, skip and step hopscotch. The video ends in the school assembly hall, where the pupils give a cacophonous rendition of 'Rule Britannia'.
