Description: The story of the new areas of suburban housing in North West London built around the Metropolitan Railway which allowed people to commute into the city from the rural areas leading to the Chiltern Hills. Sir John Betjeman travels from Baker Street through the disused Marlborough Station and onwards to the areas of: St John's Wood, Neasden (including Gladstone Park and Brook Road Allotments), Wembley (including Wembley Stadium and the stories of 'Watkin's Folly' the failed competitor to the Eiffel Tower, and the National Exhibition), Kingsbury, Harrow-on-the-Hill (including Harrow School), Harrow Weald (including the house Grimsdyke), Pinner (including Pinner Fair), Moor Park, Rickmansworth (including the golf club), Chorleywood, Amersham, and Quainton Road. Throughout the film concentrates on the exteriors of the suburban housing and majestic houses of 'metroland'.
