Standard 8mm film Colour Silent 09.04.1960 8:34
Summary: A film by the Edmonton Film Society on Rowantree Secondary Modern School in Little Bury Street.
Title number: 906
LSA ID: LSA/1214
Description: The film begins with a look around the unpopulated school. The exterior shots of the school and its playground, are followed by a look inside. A caretaker tends to the boiler house, but everywhere else is devoid of people as the filmmakers records the interior corridors, a bathroom, the school gymnasium, a woodwork shop with lathes and a forge, a typing room, a domestic science classroom (with cookers and pots), a chemistry laboratory, stairwells, the library, and the assembly hall. Then pupils are filmed arriving at school, with adult guests for the opening ceremony also turning up on foot and by car. The official car of the Edmonton Mayor, Councillor J. Beattie, arrives and delivers the Mayor, Mayoress and macebearer. The Mayor participates in the official opening ceremony in the school assembly hall, and speeches are given. Afterwards the official guests walk through the school corridors and look at a mural. The film ends with the Mayor leaving.
