Description: The Mayor of Edmonton, Councillor J. Beattie, opens Edmonton's Arts Week in the grounds of Salisbury House. An audience sit in chairs laid out on the lawn to watch a performance by a group of singers and a pianist. This is followed by a scene from Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice' being performed by some costumed actors. Inside Salisbury House Edmonton Amateur Astronomical Society present images of a set of artworks depicting the moon, other planets and deep space, models of rockets and some telescopes. Also inside are displays of floral art and flower arranging, antique musical instruments, photographs by the Edmonton Camera Club, and amateur paintings.
