Description: An amateur film of a series of guiding events marking the Baden Powell Centenary Celebrations over the summer of 1957. The film starts with Brownies and Guides parading past the County Comissioner in what looks like a school playground. After saluting the Comissioner, the girls present purses which the Comissioner then drops into a large barrell at her feet. The film is interspersed with beautifully made intertiles. The next section shows vast swathes of Guides and Brownies at Epsom race course for a rally on the 13th July. Despite the month being July, the weather is absimal – high winds and heavy rain soaks the attendees as they parade gallantly along a section of the racecourse in honour of the World Chief Guide. Next we see the world jamboree of 1957. Guides from all around the world amass in the English sunshine as the third installment of the Baden Powell centenary celebrations. Guides and their leaders from as far as India, Ukraine, Estonia, Israel, Uganda, Antigua and Sierra Leone eat, drink and parade together. Lovely shot of one leader shooting with a 16mm camera as the World Chief Guide stands on podium waving to the throng of girls. The next day sees the girls relaxing after all the formalities of the previous day. Now is the time for the girls to have fun which includes a competition for carrying water filled buckets on their heads.
