The Thames, Tall Ships
Standard 8mm film Colour Silent c.1971 22:18
Summary: An amateur film of a boating event on the River Thames.
Title number: 53
LSA ID: LSA/60
Description: Most of the film is shot on a sunny day in the area around Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and St Katherine's Dock. On the River Thames there are a wide range of watercraft from yachts and tall ships, Thames barges and tugboats to speedboats, pleasure craft, rowboats and kayaks. In St Katherine's Dock several yachts are moored and the area is busy with yachtsmen and interested onlookers. Amongst the yachts there are also a lightship, a larger boat called 'La Dame de Serk' and a Dutch style houseboat. On Thames, more river action is filmed from Tower Pier and St Katherine's Way including men rowing large boats in competing teams and Thames barges in sail. The film concludes downriver in the Thames Estuary, in worse weather, with many of the tall ships and yachts in sail as they head out to sea.
