Around & About Bexley
Standard 8mm film Colour Silent c.1977 17:04
Summary: An amateur film record of the Bexley area. A sunny day in the suburbs is followed by a fascinating glimpse into a local church wedding at the Parish Church of St. John the Evangelist. Old and young congregate and provide a typical example of fashions of the period. Views of parks and woodland areas offer a wider perspective of the surrounding area in the 70's.

Description: The film begins with shots of suburban houses and gardens in Bexley in the area between East Rochester Way and Bourne Road. Much attention is placed on the exterior facades of semi-detached housing and the front garden's trees and plants. The next part of the film records a wedding at the Parish Church of St. John the Evangelist on Parkhill Road in Bexley village, including the arrival of the bride and her father, the bridesmaids, recordings made inside the church during the ceremony (these are quite dark) and the wedding party being photographed outside the church after the service. The next scenes show the grounds of the Tudor mansion house, Hall Place with its formal gardens and some leafless trees in early spring with crocuses growing underneath. Hall Place is also visited again later in the year with trees in full leaf and the gardens erupting into flower, and again in autumn as the leaves begin to fall again. Some other film records the green between North Cray Road and the railway line, with views along the River Cray as it meanders on.
