Description: The film begins in Venice'with views of the church of San Giorgio Maggiori, St Mark's clock tower and the passenger ship SS Uganda moored against the Riva dei Setti Martini. Suitcases are loaded on to the ship up a conveyor belt. There are views from the ship as it cruises in the Adriatic of coastal towns and the sea itself. The ship enter Piraeus, the port of Athens, where many other ships are moored. Teenagers on the trip are filmed walking in the town. They travel on to see the Acropolis, and visit the Parthenon. Their cruise continues, with a sail through the Dardanelles and they are filmed on deck swimming in a pool and playing games. The next port of call is Istanbul, where the ship moors. The teenagers visit the Sultanahmet area and go to the Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque). Their cruise continues through the Dodecanese with some students taking time to write postcards and diaries while others engage in sports. The next stop is the island of Rhodes, which they travel to by a motor launch from the ship. A coach takes them up to the ruins of the Temple of Apollo on the Acropolis of Rhodes. The cruise then turns through the Mediterranean to go to the island of Malta, where they visit Valletta. They disembark the ship for the last time at Livorno in Tuscany as they make their way home.
Further information: The SS Uganda was a former liner between London and East Africa that converted to an educational cruise ship in 1967. It later served as a hospital ship during the Falklands War.
Uganda's cruise 225 departed Venice on March 26, 1971. Ports visited: Venice, Piraeus, Istanbul, Rhodes, Malta and Leghorn (Pisa), finishing on April 7, 1971.
Passengers on board included pupils from Sutton Manor High School, Coombe Girls School, Wallington High School for Girls, and possibly others.
