I worked in 'Home Sales' department - starting in July 1957 aged 15 years, as an Office Junior. £3.17.6 a week. With every exam. that I passed at night school I was given an extra 5s.0d a week. There was a very large canteen and I took sandwiches - one day I left them in their bag on the table and went for a cup of tea....the lady clearing the tables threw them away! I went hungry.
Mr. Blakeney was over the department - he always wore pristine white shirts and smoked a pipe - a lovely gentleman. I left to work in a London Bank.
