Summary: A dramatised presentation of migration to the UK, based on oral history accounts.
Title number: 3939
LSA ID: LSA/5153
Description: A DVD produced by Eastside Community Heritage in partnership with a group of young people from Stratford and West Ham Youth Forum, FSW (Newham Youth Parliament). The DVD is based on nine months of research that the youth group made into the experiences affecting people from the African/Caribbean communities in East London. During that period they visited the 'Back to Black' exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, Newham's 'Caribbean Identities Exhibition' at The Old Dispensary, the Museum of London and the 'Closing the door?' exhibition at the Jewish Museum. The DVD combines material and documentation they discovered while visiting museums and archives to research the last 50 years history of African/Caribbean communities, with new oral history testimony from African and Caribbean elders who came to the UK in the 1960s. The young people take this rich stew of material and transform into their own re-telling of the story of black immigration.
