Description: A royal visit by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother to the Warley Barracks, near Brentwood in Essex. There is a military inspection on the parade ground. The Queen Mother, acting in her role as Colonel-in-Chief, to the Third East Anglian Regiment (16th/44th Foot) presents new Colours to the 1st Battalion of the Regiment. The award of new colours was necessitated by the amalgamation of the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire regiment with the Essex Regiment. The Lady Elizabeth Basset, the Queen Mother's lady in waiting and Major Sir Ralph Anstruther, the Treasurer to the Queen Mother are in attendance at the event.
Further information: The Essex Regiment subsequently became the 3rd Battalion Royal Anglian Regt on the 1st of September 1964.
