Description: The film begins with a record of the inter-platoon challenge cup for assault course performance. Home guard troops from various platoons are seen using a rural assault course while armed and in uniform. They run, crawl through tunnels, leap over sandbag defences walk on narrow poles over a ditch, attack suspended sacks with bayonets, climb walls and ropes and step through a barbed wire area. Smoke bombs are set off repeatedly imitating a combat situation. There follow scenes of Home Guard men marching down a suburban street. At a firing range men laying down load and fire rifles at a picture target, while a supervisor with binoculars notes their achievements. Other Home Guard troops practice battle drill by crawling across ground and rushing across a field. The Home Guard Signals Section demonstrates various techniques: a small group of men set up a signalling device for sending Morse messages with light flashes and communicate across a piece of land with distant comrades. Another group of me creep about hay bales and use flags to communicate using semaphore. The men then perform a gas attack drill and put on their respirators, before carrying on signalling. The film ends with hot food being served up to and enjoyed by Home Guard troops in an outdoor mess.
