Barbara I domestic scenes
16mm film Black & White Silent c.1933 20:08
Summary: An amateur film compilation showing the early years of a young girl.
Title number: 35
LSA ID: LSA/40
Description: The back garden of a suburban house is the common backdrop for a compilation of family films showing the early years of a young girl, Barbara, from newborn baby in swaddling clothes through an active toddlerhood and on to school age. Various family members including the child's parent and grandparents make their appearances holding the evidently much-loved new daughter. The film concentrates almost entirely on the baby in a manner, which is as understandable to a new parent as it is generally uninformative for the general viewer. There are incidental details revealed however in the changing attire of the family and the development of the domestic garden across the different sections. The back garden location is left a few times, firstly for a trip to a park where Barbara enjoys the swings and a roundabout alongside other children and a solo scramble through some tall grass. There are also some interior shots inside the family house with Barbara brushing her teeth in the kitchen and a new sibling being bathed before the fireplace in the front room and held by their friendly sister.
Further information: The film is a compilation of sections over a few years in the early 1930s.
