Summary: A film about elderly Tower Hamlets resident Lilly Scheller.
Title number: 3003
LSA ID: LSA/3947
Description: A documentary considering the changing east end of London through one of its older occupants. 86 year old Lilly Scheller lives alone in a council flat near the area she has spent most of her life. She speaks about the events of her life and what it was like growing up in the Jewish community of the east end. The conditions of poverty she describes are illustrated with archive film and photographs. A young woman called Sue Bowerman accompanies Lilly on a walk through the streets of Hoxton as she points out places where she had worked, shopped and moved through. Lilly indicates how particular buildings have changed and what used to be in some of the locations she sees. A car journey takes Lilly back to Brick Lane and she is taken to a club night occupying part of the old Truman's Brewery building. Outside young people talk about contemporary Shoreditch and the ambiance of the area. A final journey has DJ Dave King escorting Lilly around more of the east end's streets taking in Hoxton Street, Hoxton Square and the Lux gallery.
