Summary: A corporate video considering the past, present and future of London's docklands.
Title number: 2988
LSA ID: LSA/3928
Description: An odd mix of archive film of London, contemporary aerial views of the docklands taken from a helicopter and video recordings of significant individuals in the development of the area. The archive film takes in the height of the port of London, with dockers loading and unloading freight boats, the buses that travelled back and forth to the quays and the wartime devastation brought on by Luftwaffe bombing. The modern recording shows Sir Christopher Besnon, Chairman of the London Docklands Development Corporation in easy conversation with Paul Channon, MP the Secretary of State for Transport. There's also record of visits to docklands by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Nicholas Ridley MP as well as Royal engagements by the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Kent and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Christopher Benson, Reg Ward and Michael Dennis are filmed at the official document signing for the Canary Wharf development.
