Description: This video provides advice on protection against domestic violence, burglary, bill dodging and crimes against personal safety, as well as how to avoid handling stolen goods. It features comment from Crime Prevention Officer Mr Roly Jones of the Crime Prevention Unit In Limehouse. Dramatised situations are used to illustrate the character of each of the issues raised and how best to deal with them. In one scenario two men try and avoid paying for their meal at a Chinese restaurant (Chinatown Restaurant in Limehouse), one is apprehended and the police are called. In another scene a young Chinese woman is by pursued by a man after getting off a bus at night and walking across a dark park, she runs to join some other women, telephones the police from a call box, a personal alarm is shown. In a dramatised encounter a young Chinese man buys a stolen video recorder from a dodgy character on Lime Street in the City, he is arrested by police and interviewed at a station near Canary Wharf. A young Chinese woman walks the streets around Oxford Circus underground station fearful of returning home to her abusive partner, onscreen text provides contact details for the Islington Chinese Women Group on Giesbach Road, the Chinese Women Support Group on Shaftsbury Avenue, the Chinese Woman Refuge Group in King's Cross, and the Camden Chinese Women Group on Arlington Road. In the final dramatisation, a Chinese couple stroll about Piccadilly Circus and London's Chinatown while a thief raids their home, they return to their house discover the theft and call Limehouse Police station. Police officers come to the house, provide advice on avoiding burglary and arrange for fingerprints to be taken. The couple have an alarm fitted to their house. The video ends with advice on the best type of locks to have fitted, and ways of marking electrical goods that might be stolen in order to aid their recovery.
