Summary: Drama about racial violence and an Asian youth's attempt to fight back.
Title number: 2960
LSA ID: LSA/3889
Description: Shaheed Khan, an Asian youth has been arrested for wounding a white youth and is in a detention centre awaiting trial. He tells the government psychologist who is interviewing him that he was only protecting an Asian family who were being subjected to arson attacks by a group of racist thugs. Flashbacks reveal the sequence of events that led up to Shaheed's defensive action. The film shows that Shaheed is a victim of his environment who uses violence as a means of protection, protest and final resort when all other avenues are cut off to him. The film uses the east end's tradition of resistance to fascism as a way of contextualising contemporary racial tensions.
