Description: A video that attempts to explain why two very different refugee families, one from South Vietnam, the other from North Vietnam came to live on the Isle of Dogs. Bich Chan Hoang from Hai Phong, North Vietnam describes her wedding in a refugee camp in Macao after reaching there as one of the 'boat people', learning English and moving to the UK. The other Vietnamese family, that of Thieu Guang Ho and hHen Thi Do from Qui Nhon (near Saigon), are filmed celebrating the Lunar New Year at their current home in a council flat in East London. They reveal how they escaped Vietnam via a boat to Hong Kong. The videotape also includes 'When the War is Over', a music video to a song by Kieron Bowker by Mari Taylor using pieces of archival film and photography. Photos of London docks redevelopment are intercut with scenes of World War Two bombing in London and Hiroshima. The video also features shots of Cruise missiles, the Carter-Brezhnev conference, the miner strike, the Brixton riots, political marches in London, and the Conservative party conference.
