Title number: 2945
LSA ID: LSA/3871
Description: An informal look at the activities taking place on one of London's City Farms, the Stepping Stones Farm in Stepney, Tower Hamlets. The video includes views of the animals and livestock housed on the farm's land including donkeys, pigs, sheep, cows, chickens, ducks, geese and goats. Adults assist children in feeding some of the animals. Some new raised beds appear to be ready for new planting, and a few greenhouses stand empty. There is a casual feel to the place, with a group of children playing on a large inflatable in one of the fields oblivious to the farm's other activities. The main action of the day comes at the end of the video with efforts to move a young bull into a trailer. 'Knocker', the first calf born on the farm is to be transported to Chelmsford Market in Essex for auction. First though he has to be pushed and coerced from his cowshed, pulled on a rope across the yard and prevented from sitting down, before eventually being coerced into the back of the trailer with a bucket of food. Some teenage boys assist in the manoeuvring until Knocker is secured. The cameraman stays in the back of the trailer with the bull a while as a Bedford pick up pulls it out onto Stepney Way. Then car and trailer are filmed departing and off to auction.
