Summary: A cine club film celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of Bexley's incorporation as a municipal borough in 1962. Among the events recorded are a military parade attended by the Mayor and Mayoress, a fete including a children's fancy dress competition, and the Police & Army Dog Society's 'C.H. Working Dog Trials'. Sporting events at Danson Park include a variety of competitive sports.

Description: The film begins with views of Bexley town centre including shots of the clock tower, churches and shop fronts along the high street including Lilley & Skinner, Woolworths, and the Kings Head public house. There are also views of Danson House in Danson Park and the Bexley & Borough council offices. The remainder of the film records a number of events visited by the Mayor and Mayoress beginning with an open-air service on Sunday June 24th and a parade through the town to reach the park. The parade includes the Mayor, the macebearer and councillors, Rev. S. F. Hooper, war veterans and representatives of uniformed groups including members of the military, cadets, scouts, guides, red cross, boys brigade and a Salvation Army Band. After the service there are shots around a fair including games stalls, a children's fancy dress competition (including kids dressed as a 'jack in a box' and another costumed as Humpty Dumpty). A variety of food is on offer including hot sausages, cups of tea and a table of cakes. A children's choir sing to onlookers. At Freemantle Hall on the High Street, the Bexleyheath & District Rose Society hosts a rose show. St Mary's Recreation Ground is the location for the Associated Sheep, Police & Army Dog Society's 'C.H. Working Dog Trials' on 14th July 1962. The show features Alsatian dogs leaping obstacles and taking place in exercises including canine discipline, taking defensive action against attackers. One shot shows The Black Prince public house. Another event features a camp and display by Girl Guides and Brownies exhibiting cooking skills, highland dancing, dancing around a maypole and a marionette show. A Horticultural show at Danson Park features a marquee with elegant flower displays laid out on tables. Some sporting events at Danson Park on Saturday 14th July, include a massed start cycle race and an athletics meet with young men and women competing in running races, walking races, relays, and bicycle polo.
Further information: This film has been noted previously as entitled 'Silver Jubilee of Bexley Borough'. It was the Municipal Borough's last significant anniversary before being absorbed into the London Borough of Bexley in 1965. (See LSA/0031, FV/12.1, for off-cuts from this film.)
