Summary: A video promoting tourism in the Borough of Hounslow. No longer do blood curdling cries of ''Stand and Deliver'' ring out across Hounslow Heath, terrorising travellers to London. Today you can enjoy the many haunts of Hounslow, unhindered by highwaymen.

Description: Hounslow's historical identity as the 'land of the highwaymen' introduces this public relations video with a re-enactment of criminal activity on Hounslow Heath in the 1760s. A horse borne bandit holds up a stagecoach on its way to Cheltenham and its rich passengers are robbed. Today, the video assures us, travellers to Hounslow are safe from the cry of 'stand and deliver' and can enjoy many interesting destinations. First off is the home and garden of the artist William Hogarth, where the video follows an actor playing Hogarth, as he looks over examples of his work, including engravings from 'A Rake's Progress'. Some more historical re-enactment comes in the form of members of the Sealed Knot Society playing soldiers of the King's army around a campfire scene, preparing for battle against Cromwell's men at the battle of Brentford in 1642. Aerial views taken from a helicopter introduce the mansions of Chiswick House, Osterley House, Syon Park and House and Gunnersbury House. The aerial views are followed with more shots of the houses interiors and exteriors and their surrounding estates. Syon Park and House come in for particular attention with the camera lingering over its statuary, gilded rooms, painted floors, library, artworks, glasshouse, and butterfly house. A clip of Pathe News item from 1951 shows the Oxford and Cambridge University boat race on the River Thames from Putney to Mortlake taking in the Chiswick Bend. A clip from a Pathe Gazette item (from 04/07/1932) shows the airship Graf Zeppelin arriving at Hanworth Aerodrome to take passengers on board for a 24 hour cruise around Great Britain. Another newsreel item from 1952 records the return of Princess Elizabeth to the UK upon the death of her father in 1952 with scenes of Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, the Lord Chancellor and others waiting to meet her plane at Hounslow. A clip from John Huston's 1951 feature film 'The African Queen' with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn is used to illustrate the information that the film was shot both in Africa and at Isleworth Studios. Some more tourist destinations are introduced with shots of the magnificent machinery at Kew Bridge Steam Museum (where, we are informed, staff recently renovated the steam boat used in 'The African Queen'). More mechanical marvels are on view at Brentford Musical Museum including Wurlitzer organs, a player piano, jukeboxes, gramophones and more automatic music making machines. The celebrated Fullers Brewery at Chiswick offers up pints of beer, before the video proceeds to some riverside pubs at Isleworth including the Town Wharf, the London Apprentice, and The Coach and Horses. The borough's artistic side is revealed at Watermans Art Centre in Brentford, the former houses of painters Vincent Van Gogh and John Zoffany and at The Rambert Ballet School. Shopping opportunities are highlighted at The Old Cinema antiques department store in Chiswick. Activities for children are shown at Hounslow's urban farm. While sporting enthusiasts are presented with views of a course at Wyke Green Golf Club. The film ends beside the water again, with the boats and marina at Brentford Lock.
