Description: This video tells the story of one of Hackney's lost great houses, Brooke House which used to sit at the junction of Upper Clapton Road and Kenninghall Road in Clapton and which was demolished in 1954. Using materials from the Hackney Archives Department it follows the house's history from the 1500s into the Twentieth Century. Documents, maps, illustrations, paintings, archaeological drawings and photographs all have a part to play in recreating the 500 years of the house's existence. The video also features Rita Gibbs, archivist of Harrow School.
