Description: Video promoting the value of the government census and encouraging participation using the changing face of Hackney as a case study. Using historical census records, old photographs and testimony from current Hackney residents the video paints a picture of how the borough has changed over time. Those telling something of their lives include: Lillian Marchant a former seamstress, her daughter Alison Marchant an artist; another artist Mikey Chuddiy, Phyllis Manning MBE a former teacher; Daniel Cooke, journalist; McKenzie Meagor, Consultant; Gavin Bradshaw, publisher; Karelle Barkshire, Camera Assistant; Muhib Ullah, retailer; Jow White, baseball coach; and John Bird, founder of The Big Issue. Through them we witness changes in professions, ethnicities, and housing occupancy in Hackney. The people are filmed in a variety of locations including Hoxton Square (in front of the Lux), the Vibe Bar, Brick Lane, Ridley Road Market, Columbia Road Market and the White Cube Gallery.
