Description: Jack Rosenthal (a pensioner's leader in Hackney) talks with Joe Benjamin
(who was born in 1893) and a resident of Albion Drive, Hackney for 60 years. Joe speaks about his childhood in Whitechapel, his marriage, working as a cabinet maker, the furniture worker's union, training and working as an engineer at the Mentmore Company, participating in the engineering union, making bullets and parts for aeroplane and anti-aircraft equipment, being an active trade-unionist all his life, problems with public transport in Hackney (especially the 236 bus), the basic pension and pensioner poverty, later role as a pensioner's activist within Hackney Pensioner's Association.
