Description: A low tide at Barking Creek reveals a tale from the past. As the creek gives up its secrets, past and present weave together to tell a story of lova and murder, history and hauntings...
'Big Bang' was inspired by accounts of the boiler explosion at Hewitt Engineering Works in Barking in 1899 in which nine workmen were killed. Although the characters and the personal stories presented here are entirely fictional, certain facts have been incorporated into the action of the play. For instance, one of the bodies was never found, the hymn at the end of the play was actually sung at the funeral in 1899 and the landlady of the Pike and Eel did capitalise on the tragedy in the way the play describes.
Billy and April's love story is based on various legends and ballads.
Several of the scenes in the play are based on improvisations and characters developed with the cast and director as part of the rehearsal process.
