Summary: A sister writes a letter to her brother serving overseas updating him on family events and treasured pre war memories.

Description: A suburban garden in the Epping Division of Essex one bright afternoon, 1944-woman in garden writes a letter her notepad contains a picture of Winston Churchill-letter is to her brother serving oversesa-we see flashbacks of events in the letter-Christening, wedding, picnic in Essex, days out in the countryside, and a holiday in Bruges pre war. Scenes of Bruges, city, canal and countryside and everyday life before the war. Includes a day trip to WW1 trenches and Ypres and the Menin Gate. Canadian battlefield memorial and Brussels. Trip to Holland -Isle of Walcherin and market day in Middleburg. Scenes of the ferry port leaving to return to England. Scenes of the sister's wedding and countryside. She finishes the letter addressing it to Mr Churchill thanking him for giving the courage to so many serving soldiers like her brother.

Further information: Sydney Francis Martin lived in Wanstead & Woodford with his wife Mary and daughter Eileen. A very accomplished amateur filmmaker, he joined the Ilford Cine Club and went on to become a founder member of the Wanstead & Woodford Cine Club. He became chairman of the IAC (Film and Video Institute).
Whilst not all of these films show the London Borough of Redbridge, they are kept together as an archive of his filmmaking.
