Title number: 21845
LSA ID: LSA/28576
Description: The clip begins with a title card which shows the picture of the Queen and has the text ‘Silver Jubilee 1977’. A shot of the crown on a flag pole is seen against a blue sky before the camera pans down to the crowds lining the streets waving ‘Union Jack’ flags. Policemen can be seen lined in front of the spectators. Soldiers parade past the crowd in procession, some on foot and others on horseback. All wear full military uniform. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are also filmed as part of the procession; they are on horseback and in full uniform.
Further information: More than one million people took to the streets of London to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977. This film bears witness to that experience. Capturing the joyous atmosphere from the heady throngs, this home movie provides an opportunity to briefly relive those scenes amongst the onlookers and from behind the flat caps, headscarves and Beefeaters' bearskins.
