Description: Film from the official opening of the Ridge Avenue Library on the corner of Church Street and Ridge Avenue in the Winchmore Hill area of Enfield. After some exterior shots showing the surrounding streets, the film captures the arrival of smartly dressed guests and a chauffeured car delivering the Mayor and Mayoress. Inside the library, the Mayor and library staff give speeches to a seated audience. The librarian then escorts the Mayor and Mayoress around the building while the guests enjoy tea and sandwiches at library desks. There follows some film from a later time with the general public browsing the shelves, reading and taking out books. The film concludes with some more exterior views of the library and of the adjacent Ridge House Clinic. The clinic, run by Middlesex County Council, offered a range of services, from ante-natal clinics to vaccination. The film was made by local documentary photographers Artricia Industrial Pictures, which was based nearby at 21 Dryden Road, Bush Hill Park.
