Two and a half million book loans from the four main libraries and eleven local libraries, as well as a travelling mobile library, is just the start of this journey of discovery. The library service was viewed as an integral part of a modern caring society, where access to all knowledge was an accepted right and the provision of a local library a statutory requirement.
