Description: This film shows how the Upminster Windmill is repaired during the 1980s. We see 3 men at work, using cranes and other equipment to restore the windmill.
Further information: The Upminster Windmill was built in 1803 by local farmer James Nokes, and was functional until the 1930s.
It is currently considered one of the best English smock mills, and one of the only 6 in Greater London surviving with sails. It is currently under restoration by Willem Dijkstra, with expected completion this coming summer 2018. This process is possible thanks to a grant of £1.4million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
