Description: Marching bands and majorettes parade along the street taking part in Redbridge Carnival. Crowds line the pavement. Floats from local companies and organisations including Truman's Brewery and Ilford North Young Conservatives make their way along Perth Road. Barking and Dagenham Carnival Queen waves to the crowds from a float festooned in flowers. The action then moves to Valentines Park, Ilford where a funfair is taking place. Children are enjoying train rides and roundabouts. Pearly Kings and Queens can be seen chatting. There are glimpses of the twister, big wheel and swing carousel.
Further information: Bernard Chaplin bought his first camera with savings from work in 1958. He continued to shoot on film until he made the transfer to video in 1990. His films form part of a collection, which documents his family life and events in the Borough of Redbridge, as well as trips to central London, family holidays in the UK and abroad.
Whilst not all of these films show the London Borough of Redbridge, they are kept together as an archive of his filmmaking.
