ProRes digital file Black & White Mute 1923 1:19
Summary: Footage of the Daily Sketch gala, at the Chiswick open-air pool, showing 4 men competing in the swimming competition
Title number: 19800
LSA ID: LSA/26243
Description: The Daily Sketch gala is held at the small open-air pool in Chiswick, a popular location for Topical Budget. It starts with four rather portly fellows – named as Wolffe, Perks, Record and Maciel – creating a splash, diving into the pool to start a race. Next comes Monty Holbein, who we are told has made a dozen attempts to swim the English Channel, doing a lazy backstroke, before Henry Sullivan claims a £1,000 prize by showing “grace can be combined with endurance”.
