Summary: This 1924 newsreel shows the different activities and celebrations in Wembley Stadium for Scout parade.
Title number: 19786
LSA ID: LSA/26229
Description: Wembley Stadium hosts this Scout parade in front of the Duke of Connaught, Queen Victoria’s third son, and the watchful Robert Baden-Powell. The film starts with footage of the Scouts, who came from all over the Empire, camping and then charging into an open-air pool for some serious splashing. Then it is on to Wembley, for much marching and parading, some hat-waving and a small amount of charging. The entertainment ends with bagpipes and Highland dancing.
Further information: Topical Budget (1911-1931) was one of three major British newsreels of the silent era, its main rivals being Gaumont Graphic and Pathé Gazette. Produced by William Jeapes' Topical Film Company, its first issue was released in September 1911. Of several newsreels on the market in this early period, by the middle of the First World War only three survived: Topical, Pathé and Gaumont.
