Summary: Transport Minister Ernest Marples visits the Union Cable Company Works
Title number: 19456
LSA ID: LSA/25834
Description: A flag flies atop the entrance to the Union Telephone Cable Company Works in Dagenham. The building is modernist, with large glass windows, and UTC in large letters beneath the flag pole. In the lobby, through the glass doors, a large staircase with metal railings curves up; the camera allows us a good view of the building, with a large chimney in the background. A car with the license plate GPO 1 pulls up, and a man in a dark suit opens the door for the three men inside, all of whom wear coats. One of these men is Ernest Marples (1907-1978) who served as Postmaster General then Minister for Transport under the Conservative government of Harold Macmillan. From outside the lobby we see the men greet the secretary at her desk and sign a large book.
