Description: The Union Cable Co was one of the largest employers in Dagenham and held an annual sports day on the Cables Sports Field (not owned by the company but by the Diocese and hired out for these events). At the start of this film we see seven men competing in a sack race, mostly wearing shirts and ties. A large group of children then sits around to watch a Punch and Judy-type puppet show; two girls in the front row fight and hit each other. A football match takes place; we can see a large marquee in the background, and Dagenham Parish Church. The winning team is presented with a trophy in the shape of a roll of telephone cables, presented by a man in a suit (possibly Mr. Lampett, managing director of Union Cable Co at that time).
