Summary: Amateur film of the London Borough of Greenwich's Civic Week 1966.
Title number: 192
LSA ID: LSA/254
Description: The film concentrates on a visit by representatives of Greenwich's twinned body, the West Berlin Borough of Reinickendorf. The German guests are taken on a tour of local sites and municipal investments, including a visit to Perrygrove care home in Charlton, Charlton House, the Westcombe Court housing estate and the Royal Artillery Barracks at Woolwich. They are also escorted to Woolwich Town Hall and Churchill House (new high rise office block). A parade by the Royal Artillery Regiment along Wellington Street passes by assembled dignitaries and crowds of public outside Woolwich Town Hall. The guest of honour is the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh appears again at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, where the Royal Artillery Band leads in a parade of armed forces. The Royal Navy frigate HMS Tenby is moored on the River Thames opposite the college, and a hovercraft provides a display on the water. The Duke of Edinburgh is then filmed taking part in a ceremony inside the College. The visitors from Reinickendorf's tour continues with a visit to Crown Woods School, and a Tudor Banquet. In the centre of London they get to see the Houses of Parliament from beside the Thames and from Parliament Square. Another reception features gifts for the guests, before they say their goodbyes outside the town hall.
