Summary: Sprue is a functional disorder of the alimentary tract. This film is a case-record of a patient with the classic signs and symptoms of the disease, including the typical facies, emaciation and skin pigmentation. Blood tests reveal hyperchromic macrocytic anaemia, with achlorhydria. Fat and glucose absorption are defective. The treatment is described and the patient shown again after recovery. 1 segment.

His penis and anus are shown they are red and inflamed. His skin, pigmented with petechial haemorrhages, is shown on his back and torso. The loose texture of his skin is demonstrated. Lesions on his knees are shown. Stool samples are shown. Analysis of his blood in comparison to normal blood is shown using charts and graphs. Intertitles describe the treatment the patient receives. The patient is shown again after 2 months in hospital and 3 weeks at home. The same areas of his body are shown again - they are now recovered. A stool sample is shown.
