Title number: 18066
LSA ID: LSA/21223
Description: Segment 1 The narrator explains that until recently, the lungs were divided into five lobes in total by the medical profession, three lobes in the right lung and two in the left. An x-ray of the lungs is shown, as well as footage of lung surgery. The narrator says that as medicine advanced, more detailed divisions of the lungs were needed. A 3D model of the lungs is shown with the modern bronchopulmonary segments shown in different colours there are eight segments in the left lung and 10 in the right. An animated illustration of the lung is shown. A cast of the air passages of a lung speciment is shown. The narrator explains that the lobes have been subdivided according to the distribution of the bronchi, there being 18 main bronchi in the lungs. A tube is used to inflate different segments of a lung specimen. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:06:01:06 Length: 00:06:01:06 Segment 2 Dye is injected into the lungs to show the different segments. One segment is injected and dissected. Sections of the lung are shown in high magnification. The 3D model is used to name the 18 segments. An inflated dried lung specimen is also shown. Time start: 00:06:01:06 Time end: 00:12:07:15 Length: 00:06:06:09 Segment 3 The segments of the left lung are shown, which correspond to most of the segments in the right lung. Lung surgery is shown. The left lower lobe of the lung is described in great detail and various bronchi are pointed out. A model is used to show the passages of the bronchi. The narrator explains the anatomy of the lobe in great detail. Time start: 00:12:07:15 Time end: 00:18:03:21 Length: 00:05:56:06 Segment 4 Further bronchial orifices and segments are discussed. The left main bronchus is discussed. The three segments of the left lower lobe are discussed. A right-angled scope is used to see the orifices of the bronchi. Time start: 00:18:03:21 Time end: 00:23:20:20 Length: 00:05:16:24
