Summary: The operative technique of abdominal sympathectomy is demonstrated in detail. The pre-operative appearance is shown and the post-operative appearance one year later is assessed. 2 segments.

Description: Segment 1 A photograph of the patient, a young boy, is shown before the operation, dated November 1931. He has a distended belly. The patient is prepared for surgery and his abdomen is incised. The colon is examined. The intestines are moved aside. The intertitles are very detailed with regard to the surgical procedures, and describe the operation as it takes place. The posterior parietal peritoneum is incised. The presacral nerves are dissected. The operation continues. The incision in the posterior parietal peritoneum is sutured closed, and the abdomen is closed. The patient is shown four months after the operation, in March 1932, and the before and after photographs are compared side-by-side. The patient's abdomen appears much improved.
