Summary: This film contains a demonstration of details of the reduction, fixation and eventual mobilisation of a case of crush fracture of the fourth lumbar vertebra without nerve injury. The method of moving the prone, male patient is demonstrated and a double layered stockinette vest is fitted. A web harness is put around the patients shoulders and they are suspended between two tables while the plaster jacket is applied. No anaesthesia is used. The patient is shown commencing exercises and we see an x-ray of the fracture before and after treatment. 3 segments.

The patient is shown being prepared for treatment in hospital. The patient's history is given by intertitles he was hit by a lorry and has a crushed vertebra though the spinal cord is unharmed. A jacket is put on to the patient's torso and bandaged and plastered, the intertitles explaining how to fit it properly. The intertitles also explain how to make the patient comfortable. When the jacket is dry, the patient is encouraged to move about and sit up. He is turned at regular intervals. The patient must conduct exercises for the spine three times a day.
