Description: Description: This programme looks at street markets, discussing what their function is and they differ in terms of wholesale vs retail. In a broad overview of the different markets found within London, reference is made to Chapel Market, Clare Market, Scalding Alley, Gracechurch Market, Hungerford Market, Old London Bridge and Frost Fairs each supported by a range of old and modern prints, photographs and maps. Using contemporary film footage of Romford Market, the programme explores how street trading, once a family tradition, is now regulated by inspectors and licences from local authorities. A look at the different produce found at Club Row Market is shown and described via a film, with an additional look at the history of Crisp Street Market and Old Street Market.
