Title number: 17523
LSA ID: LSA/20656
Description: The London Schools Symphony Orchestra provides opportunities for talented and committed young musicians from ILEA schools to work with professional tutors and conductors. A residential course at the West Sussex Institute of Higher Education in Bognor during Sept 1983 gave a unique opportunity for the orchestra to perform works by two distinguished composers, who trained the players and conducted a concert at the Barbican Concert Hall in London. This film shows the interaction between the members of the orchestra and the composers in the Concerto for Orchestra by Witold Lutoslawski and the Concerto for Orchestra and Deception Pass by Paul Patterson. The developments in orchestral techniques and musical understanding are traced as the week of rehearsals proceeds and we see the committment and acheivement of the young players involved.
