Description: Description: This programme looks at charity within 1970s London, detailing how people respond to and engage with this aspect of society. To provide a visual background to the topic, an introductory selection of newspaper clippings, photographs and film footage is shown. Among this selection are images of third world poverty, street busking and different social perceptions of those in need. Throughout the programme, a series of case studies are documented and include interviews with organisations such as Save The Children, St. Giles Centre, the Salvation Army and KMP. In each case study, individuals discuss the role they play in the organisation, the work of the organisation itself and the type of social problems they aim to address including homelessness, alcoholism and more. Throughout the case studies, footage of busking is shown with a look at two buskers in particular and the potential for personal profit. Colour/B&W: Black and White
