Description: Description: This programme looks at the definition of a market, what it is and what it sells. As part of a history of markets, different street cries and the reason behind different street names, such as Milk Street, Leather Street etc are all explored. The history of insurance brokers, Lloyds, is introduced with original footage from the 'Flying Enterprise', 'Hindenburg' and 'Tacoma Bridge' disasters. Footage inside the Lloyds building is also shown. An historian of the development of London Markets, Brynn Morgan, is interviewed. He discusses the differences between commodity, money, street and wholesale markets and the importance of customer relations to ensure prosperity. How markets were commisioned and how they are governed now, including a look at the significance of the royal charter, is discussed.
