Summary: Promotional film on the Thamesmead development project in south-east London, offering a report on progress made since the film, THAMESMEAD 1968.

Description: Gives a brief recap of that film's background information, showing the architectural plans and models; the planning of transport and shopping provision; the landscaping work, planting trees and relieving the area's natural flatness; before looking in detail at the progress of 'Stage 1'. Shows construction work, pile-driving for housing foundations, formation of a lake and canals, the building of a factory for manufacturing pre-fabricated multi-storey units, etc. Looks at the input of the Greater London Council, through the Thamesmead Committee: design of a new Health Centre, provision of industrial estates and office space, measures for providing multi-denominational Church access, both bought and rented accomodation, etc. Shows the first family to move in (Mr and Mrs Gooch and family in 1968), the completion of the first tower block, and a meeting of the Residents' Association, discussing the project's teething problems.
