Description: This film takes a look at the South East of England and how it has been affected by flooding in recent years. The film looks at what can be done to protect London from future floods and the construction of the Thames Flood Barrier, which was nearing completion in 1981. This film shows footage from the floods in the 1950s and shots of the time with cars in water and looks at how these scenes can be prevented in the future. The Thames Flood Barrier started in 1974 by the GLC is shown in construction and the story of how it was developed and then carried out is told here. This film looks at the continuing development of the Thames Flood Barrier project on both sides of the River Thames up until 1980.
