Description: The film begins outside Hampstead Town Hall on Haverstock Hill, before going inside to record the Mayor, macebearer, town clerk and councillors entering the council chamber. The film moves on to the north edge of Hampstead Heath and the junction of Spaniards Road and North End Way. There are shots of 'Jack Straw's Castle' public house, traffic on Spaniard's Road and Whitestone Pond. Some views of the Vale of Health, include the 'Villas on the Heath' and nearby streets including Elm Row. Back on the Heath, the Hampstead Heath fair is filmed in full flight with funfair rides and gaming stalls. Later in the year there is snow on the Heath with sledging and skiing on Parliament Hill. Shots of a new high rise block of flats precede views of the older homes along Swain's Lane, Holly Bush Hill, Holly Mount, Mount Vernon and Admiral's Walk, including the 'Holly Bush' public house and the Admiral's House. Some children enjoy donkey rides on Judges' Walk by the heath while adults peruse arts and crafts for sale on stalls from the Hampstead Arts Council's annual show on Heath Street and listen to both political speakers and a Salvation Army band by Whitestone Pond. The large houses along The Bishops Avenue are filmed from the road. This is followed by film of The Spaniards Inn public house on Spaniard's Road, the Old Bull and Bush public house on North End Road, and the Parish Church of Saint John-at-Hampstead on Church Row. A billboard by a building site shows plans for the new Swiss Cottage Library and Swimming Baths and library. Shots of the construction site itself feature views of a McAlpine crane, scaffolding and concrete foundations. A visit to the site by councillors and the Mayor includes the ceremony of laying a foundation stone and a formal reception attended by the architect Sir Basil Spence. The film carries on with views of Hampstead High street, the Spinning wheel restaurant and finishes with shots of Hampstead Ponds and Highgate Ponds where some men are fishing.
