Description: The film begins with shots of the exterior of 'Thrift House', a branch of the Hastings and Thanet Building Society at 35 Fife Road. The window features a display promoting the Kingston River Carnival, which took place on 14 September. The film then moves to the river, where a Pearly Queen is being helped on to a boat. On the river boats of all shapes and sizes are pottering about, including canoes, rafts, rowboats, motorboats and decorated floats. Some of the mariners are in costume as native Americans, pirates and historical figures. A fair next to the river features competitions run by local groups, including a tombola. A few shots feature actress Barbara Windsor, the guest of honour of the carnival.
